Position Overview
The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center is seeking a board-eligible or board-certified Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant (AHFT) cardiologist to join our growing academic Advanced Heart Failure Program. The successful candidate will join an established team of 7 Advanced Heart Failure cardiologists and 3 cardiac transplant/mechanical circulatory support surgeons providing comprehensive care for patients with advanced heart failure, cardiogenic shock, heart transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support.
We welcome applications from both recent graduates of an ACGME-accredited Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology fellowship and experienced AHFT cardiologists. Academic appointment will be at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The Opportunity
This position provides a broad academic practice in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, including inpatient and outpatient advanced heart failure care, heart transplantation, durable and temporary mechanical circulatory support, cardiogenic shock, hemodynamic assessment, and multidisciplinary evaluation of patients for advanced therapies.
Faculty participate in the dedicated Advanced Heart Failure inpatient service, outpatient Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant clinics, transplant and LVAD selection conferences, and teaching of cardiovascular disease fellows, residents, and medical students.
Opportunities are available to develop focused clinical or academic interests in heart transplantation, LVAD/MCS, cardiogenic shock, pulmonary hypertension, cardio-oncology, adult congenital heart disease, clinical research, quality improvement, donor utilization, and transplant innovation. Protected academic time is available for teaching, research, quality improvement, and other scholarly activities based on the candidate's interests and career goals.
Program Highlights
7 dedicated Advanced Heart Failure cardiologists.
3 cardiac surgeons performing heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support procedures.
More than 400 heart transplants performed since program inception.
Established DCD heart transplantation program, including Normothermic Regional Perfusion (NRP).
Use of advanced heart preservation and transport technologies.
One of the largest durable LVAD programs in the region, with over 1,000 durable LVAD implantations.
Approximately 300 patients currently supported with durable LVADs.
Dedicated 22-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit staffed by cardiac critical care intensivists.
Dedicated Advanced Heart Failure inpatient service.
Comprehensive temporary MCS and cardiogenic shock capabilities.
Highly experienced multidisciplinary team of transplant and LVAD APPs, coordinators, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, rehabilitation specialists, quality and regulatory professionals, and data specialists.
Academic Environment
The University of Rochester Medical Center is a major academic and quaternary referral center serving patients throughout Upstate and Western New York and beyond. The Division of Cardiology includes more than 70 cardiologists spanning advanced heart failure, transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, structural heart disease, cardiovascular imaging, cardio-oncology, pulmonary vascular disease, preventive cardiology, and women's cardiovascular health.
Faculty have opportunities for clinical, translational, and basic science research through the Clinical Cardiovascular Research Center, Clinical & Translational Science Institute, and Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute. The position offers opportunities for career development in clinical excellence, education, investigation, program development, and academic leadership. Mentorship will be provided for junior faculty and recent AHFT fellowship graduates.

Qualifications
M.D. Degree or equivalent
Must obtain a New York State Medical License prior to start date
Eligible for a Faculty Appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry
Must meet all credentialing requirements
Eligible for Board Certification in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology
Post offer Drug Screen and Health Assessment required
