Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
The Division of Gynecologic Specialty Surgery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Columbia University Medical Center is comprised of 8 physicians, 2 fellows, and 2 nurse practitioners practicing in two unique sections: Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology). We provide comprehensive gynecologic care, exploring different diagnostic and treatment options to treat and manage gynecologic and urogynecologic problems, from fibroids to incontinence. Our providers work with each patient to design an individualized care management plan, from routine testing to the most advanced diagnosis and treatment for women of all ages. We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic team in providing outstanding care for our patients.
The Clinical Coordinator / Nurse Practitioner will report to both the Chief of the Division of Gynecologic Specialty Surgery and the Division Administrator. Working closely with the physicians, this individual will lead the medical management of Urogynecology patients and will also have privileges at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. The position will be based out of our Midtown Manhattan and Scarsdale (Westchester) locations; travel to both sites will be necessary.
Responsibilities will include assessment and management of Urogynecology patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Specifically, this will include urodynamic testing, pelvic floor therapy program including counseling, biofeedback/estim, vaginal dilator training, bladder instillations, voiding trials, catheter teaching, and pessary maintenance.
-Work closely with the Urogynecology physicians in the Division of Gynecologic Specialty Surgery to provide high quality, comprehensive patient care.
- Perform urodynamic testing.
- Perform pelvic floor therapy including counseling sessions, vaginal dilator training, biofeedback and e-stim.
- Conduct pre-operative counseling and post-op visits in collaboration with individual Urogynecology physicians.
-Meet weekly with Urogynecology physicians to review urodynamics and pelvic floor treatments.
-Supervise the LPN and assist in office-based procedures, e.g., cystoscopy.
- Coordinates and manages lab tracking for the Urogynecology physicians by coordinating with the LPN.
- Tracks abnormal lab results to confirm that patient has had appropriate follow-up as ordered by the physician in the patient's plan of care.
- Acts as a resource for patients requesting lab results and requisition.
- Triaging patient phone calls and making follow-up clinically related calls.
- Assist with guiding patients through the surgical process:
See new patients of the practice for first evaluation and discussion of treatment options.
Obtain outside medical records and images prior to initial consult.
Coordinate perioperative planning.
Determine need for medical clearance and ensure contact and documentation with appropriate providers.
Review perioperative course with patients in advance of surgery including orientation to CUMC, scheduling procedures (urodynamics, cardiac testing, imaging, etc.), timing of surgery, anesthesia evaluation, preoperative lab testing and follow up, anticipated hospital course, prescription information.
Telephone patients after discharge and coordinate the evaluation and management of the recovery period, including postoperative complications.
Handle postoperative telephone calls and questions from patients.
- Functions as a team member, providing backup coverage when required.

Must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus 5 years of related experience. Master's degree preferred.
Must have current New York State NP and RN license and DEA and maintain and renew when necessary. Must be able to meet credentialing requirements.
Must be willing to travel to our practice locations in NYC and Westchester.

Experience in Urogynecology or Urology preferred.

We choose the least invasive surgical options, which may include a vaginal approach, laparoscopic or robotic techniques to minimize patients’ recovery times. Patients who undergo minimally invasive surgery may have less postoperative pain and faster recoveries compared to open abdominal surgery. Our surgeons are experienced in the most up to date surgical techniques and technology. Many of our doctors teach robotic techniques.
